As newly inaugurated Tulsa Metro Chamber Chair Becky Frank prepared to assume the role that she views as an “opportunity of a lifetime,” she looked to her 30 years of public relations experience for insight into how she could best serve Tulsa.
“Our experiences with hundreds of clients, helping them establish and build their reputations, depended on the same skills needed for the city of Tulsa and its reputation,” the chairman and CEO of Schnake Turnbo Frank | PR said. “I’m excited to draw on my expertise in this area to assist the chamber in this endeavor.”
At the chamber’s annual meeting Jan. 10, she called on the public and business and civic leaders in the Tulsa region to generate their boldest ideas for determining “What’s Next” for the greater Tulsa region and share them at an enVision Summit planned for this year.
“We need you. We need your bold ideas. We need your expert advice, your opinions, and your passionate arguments,” she told the more than 1,200 in attendance at the Renaissance Tulsa Hotel and Convention Center.
“How do you envision our collective future?” she said. “I ask you to participate in the enVision Summit this year. With your guidance and participation, together, we will enVision the future and determine ‘What’s Next’ for the greater Tulsa region.”
As she takes on this role, as well chairing the Tulsa United Way campaign for 2013, Frank took some time to reflect on what these roles represent to her personally and professionally and shared those thoughts with the Tulsa Business Journal.
Q: Above and beyond the chamber’s initiatives for 2012, what are your goals for your year as chair of the Tulsa Metro Chamber?

If you had to pick a color to describe Tulsa, what would it be?
Red, yellow, green, blue?
How about beige?
That rather bland color is what outsiders use to describe Tulsa, and that is a perception that the Tulsa Metro Chamber hopes to change, said Becky J. Frank, the newly inaugurated chair of the chamber’s board of directors.
“It’s not that there’s a bad perception of the Tulsa region, there’s just no perception of Tulsa,” she said.
On Tuesday, more than 1,200 area business leaders, local officials and citizens attended the Tulsa Metro Chamber’s annual meeting where Frank, chairman and CEO of Schnake Turnbo Frank PR, officially took the helm as the 2012 chair of the board of directors.

She succeeds Dr. Gerard Clancy, president of the University of Oklahoma-Tulsa.
The luncheon at the Renaissance Tulsa Hotel and Convention Center included a video presentation featuring a review of 2011 accomplishments, an awards presentation and Frank’s inaugural address unveiling the chamber’s primary initiatives for 2012.
“We have to feel good about ourselves and have confidence in who we are,” she said. “And when we do, we’ll make a name, build a brand and establish a reputation.”
The chamber will gather creative minds from across the region this year to collaborate and construct a branding campaign, Frank said.
“We have engaged regional chamber leaders and will begin gathering communitywide feedback by hosting a series of meetings in cities throughout the region, culminating in a region-wide summit,” she said. “This collaboration must be continued for years, in order to change the perception of our community from beige to our more colorful reality (more…)
