OKLAHOMA CITY (June 23, 2010) – Cancer does not have to be a scary word, according to Zora Brown, featured in the nation’s first online cancer channel hosted by INTEGRIS Health. Brown has battled and beat two types of cancer since 1982.

“I come from a long line of women with cancer. I knew that my family was genetically predisposed,” says Brown. “My mother, my grandmother, my great grandmother and my three sisters have all had breast cancer.”

Brown is among more than two dozen cancer survivors who tell their stories on INTEGRIScancer.com. The channel showcases patients, families, loved ones and physicians who share their personal struggles and triumphs with the “C” word.

“We are providing a platform where people can be real about their journey with cancer,” says Dr. Brian Geister, INTEGRIS Health physician. “It’s important that we don’t sugar coat this disease. These candid videos give the public a true glimpse into the world of cancer diagnosis, treatment and survival.”

The online channel has easy-to-navigate sections featuring personal stories, types of cancer, medical specialties, physician interviews and a glossary of commonly used medical terms. The user can scroll across the faces of cancer patients to view personalized chapters about the survivor’s medical history, including thoughts from their loved ones and physicians.

“The patient-physician relationship is a special one,” says Bruce Lawrence, president and CEO of INTEGRIS Health. “We want to share our best practices with today’s most commonly used communication tool, the Internet.”

INTEGRIS Health launched the new online cancer channel at its Celebration of Life ceremony June 6. More than 1,000 cancer survivors attended the event. Additional video chapters will be added to the online cancer channel as survivors continue to live longer with the disease.
